Abstract

People in emergency may die when emergency vehicles don’t arrive in time. One main reason is that emergency vehicles are blocked by traffic. With the help of vehicleto-vehicle communication, the travel time of emergency vehicle can be reduced when other traffic participants perform right action at right reaction distance. A lot of related studies have already proved that. But they don’t take the impact on the whole traffic into consideration and therefore use fixed reaction distance. In this thesis, we give the theoretical calculation of right reaction distance. We propose a protocol improving the choice of right action from related work and make the reaction distance variable. With simulation experiments under different scenarios we finally prove that our protocol has less impact on the whole traffic with the same or even less travel time of emergency vehicle comparing to other protocols from related work. Right choice of action and variable reaction distance do improve the pass-through of emergency vehicle.
