MIP PhD Seminar
Sommer 2013
Contents
The MIP Seminar is organized as a multi-disciplinary seminar at the School of Mathematics, Computer Science, and Physics (MIP). The main motivation is to provide a forum in which PhD students of the three domains learn how to present their research work and their main contributions to scientists in other fields.
We thus go one step beyond practicing research talks and presentation skills: We not only require each attendee to prepare a presentation outlining the challenges to be solved in his or her PhD work, but also to introduce the key research problem and the state of the art in a way that is easy to comprehend and to follow by non-specialists.
Participation is mandatory in all PhD programs at the MIP school.

This PhD course will be held in English and all the course material is available in English.

Guidelines
Participants are expected to give a 30 minutes talk, followed by about 15 minutes of discussion, about their PhD topic. It will be graded for presentation and interaction with the audience.
It is strongly recommended to having your PhD advisor(s) review your slide set (and to rehearse the talk). Your PhD advisor(s) is more than welcome to join the seminar when you give the talk - please don't forget to invite him or her. Feel free also to discuss the slides beforehand with one of the instructors.
