Abstract

Wireless sensor networks have been rapidly developed in recent years and have become more and more important. The requirements for more efficient sensor networks are increased with the increasing number of applications of wireless sensor networks. As part of the ROSES project (Robot Assisted Sensor Networks), special characteristics of mobile autonomous systems are investigated and new methods of communication are developed. The lifetime of the overall network is an appropriate metric for the evaluation of such algorithms and methods. In the first part of the thesis an efficient algorithm for calculating the life is developed. Then the algorithm will be implemented and in the simulation tool J-Sim integrated. At the end, the performance of the algorithm and the impact on the entire sensor network will be analyzed and evaluated through a series of simulations with different parameters.
