Abstract

Sensornetworks underwent drastic changes over the past years. With new challenges like video surveillance tremendous amounts of data are gathered. They are to be processed. The traditional, inefficient sensor nodes are not capable to cope with this load. Additional computation nodes (beacons) are needed to be able to carry out demanding applications out of the field of pattern recognition. This work presents design and implementation of a dynamically reconfigurable participant in a network of sensor and computation nodes. The groundwork for that are partially self-reconfigurable FPGAs. To locally administer resources Linux is being used as operating system, self-reconfiguration is provided by a device driver. To deploy the constructed node in the network, a framework has been developed, that for principles of supply and demand allows distribution of labor among participants. With successfully creating the self-reconfiguring node and a concept for division of labor it is now possible to build up networks to solve tasks cooperatively among the participants. Utilizing these special nodes the network accomplishes a certain grade of reliability.
