Abstract

Nowadays, suitable security mechanisms are more and more required due to increased attacks (Denial of Service Attacks, Viruses and Worms, etc.) upon the stations in the Internet. The goal of this paper is to examine the information pathways in different secured network environments and to rebuild them in an UML-based Model. In high-speed backbone networks, it is not possible to collect and analyze every single packet. In order to solve this problem, efficient methods for data collection must be first developed. PSAMP (Packet SAMPling protocol) was developed by the PSAMP IETF Working Group in order to find and standardize a strategy for the packet selection, reporting and exporting. In this thesis, three algorithms of PSAMP were implemented and compared with the JAVA-based simulation tool Anylogic. Biological mechanisms can provide good solutions to technical problems. A frequently adapted mechanism is the human immune systems. The biological mechanisms have many advantages, for example, they are self-organizing, self-healing and self-optimizing. In this paper, a cellular mechanism of the information exchange, the feedback loop mechanism, was examined in order to rebuild the biological solutions to the network security. This mechanism was also implemented and analyzed with Anylogic.
